Hills’ Highlights: Fighting for Families, Honoring Heroes, and Supporting Survivors

As we approach Mother’s Day, I’m reminded of the strength of women in our community, especially those facing unimaginable challenges. That’s why I’m proud to host a Mother’s Day Toiletry Drive through May 9 to support A Safe Place, an organization helping survivors of domestic violence in Lake County and beyond.

This drive is a small but meaningful way to show our support. I invite you to donate new, unopened hygiene and household essentials such as personal care items, paper products, and new underwear. Your generosity can make a real difference in the lives of survivors.

Drop-off Location:
Senator Darby Hills’ District Office
795 Ela Road, Suite 208, Lake Zurich
Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

In addition to supporting local causes, I’m working hard to ensure that our state budget reflects the priorities of families in Illinois, prioritizing fiscal responsibility and essential services, not new taxes.

As always, my district office is here to serve you. Stop by at 795 Ela Rd, Suite 208 in Lake Zurich or call (224) 662-4544 — we’d love to hear from you!

Fighting for a State Budget That Puts Families First

I see every day how hard parents in our community work — juggling jobs, raising kids, and trying to plan for the future. Through the children’s charity I run, I also see how many families are struggling to meet basic needs, especially with the rising cost of living.

As we approach the end of May and the deadline to pass a state budget, I’m increasingly concerned about the Governor’s proposal. If enacted, it would be the largest budget in Illinois history — nearly $15 billion more than when he first took office. To fund it, $6 billion in new and expanded taxes have been proposed that would impact families throughout the state.

Illinois families are already dealing with one of the highest tax burdens in the country. More taxes now would just raise everyday costs, make it harder for small businesses to grow and provide jobs, and put more strain on family farms trying to survive. That’s not the kind of future we should be building. Families need relief — not higher taxes.

In the Senate, I’m fighting for a budget that reflects the reality families are living — not one that grows the government at their expense. That means protecting the things that matter most: good schools, safe neighborhoods, access to healthcare, and the opportunity to build a life here in Illinois without feeling like you have to leave to get ahead. I’ll keep fighting to make sure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely — and that state government lives within its means, just like families do every day.

Fallen Officers, K9s Honored at Capitol

At the 40th Annual Illinois Police Officers Memorial Ceremony, we honored the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our communities. For the first time, fallen K9 officers were also recognized. I had the honor of meeting Deputy John Florenza and Lux, the son of his late K9 partner, Dax, who served with the Lake County IL Sheriff’s Office. Dax gave his life in the line of duty just weeks ago. His legacy, and the legacy of all the men and women, will never be forgotten. Click here to watch a powerful tribute video for Dax.

Mother’s Day Toiletry Drive

As Mother’s Day approaches, I’m reminded of the strength and resilience of the women in our community, especially those facing unimaginable challenges. That’s why I’m proud to host a Mother’s Day Toiletry Drive through May 9 to support A Safe Place, a local organization that provides shelter, services, and hope to survivors of domestic violence in Lake County and beyond.
