Protecting Families. Rejecting Tax Hikes.

With just two weeks left in the spring legislative session, Illinois faces a $1 billion budget deficit — the result of years of unchecked government spending. Now, Governor Pritzker has proposed the largest state budget in history, and Democrats in the legislature want to pay for it with $6 billion in new taxes.

Since Governor Pritzker took office, state spending has jumped nearly 40% — and now he and his allies in Springfield want working families to foot the bill for more. Their plan would raise the cost of everyday essentials at a time when Illinois families are already burdened with some of the highest taxes in the nation. More taxes won’t solve our problems — they’ll make them worse, driving out jobs and opportunity while placing even more strain on the families who are already struggling to keep up. I’m fighting for a better way forward — one that reins in spending, respects taxpayers, and puts families first. As session winds down, I’ll continue standing up for the people I represent and working toward a more affordable, sustainable future for all.

2025 Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service Honors Illinois Heroes

Firefighters from across the state were honored at the 32nd Annual Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial and Firefighter Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony. The ceremonies brought scores of firefighters from across Illinois to Springfield to honor, recognize, and remember firefighters who dedicated their lives to protecting their communities.

I was proud to recognize a firefighter from our district, Deputy Chief Brett Haller, who recently received awards for his heroic service. Thank you to all Illinois firefighters for your courage and unwavering dedication to protecting our communities. The event was a powerful reminder of the courage, selflessness, and commitment that these brave men and women demonstrate in their service to the people of Illinois.   You can click here to watch a video highlighting the memorial.

New Loan Option for Illinois Students

Last week the Illinois State Treasurer announced the launch of the Illinois No-Cosigner Loan. This new private student loan option under the Student Empowerment Fund will help support Illinois students who face barriers accessing traditional college financing. The Illinois No-Cosigner Loan joins two existing products under the Student Empowerment Fund, both for students with strong credit history or a cosigner. Highlights include:

  • Eligibility: Open to Illinois students attending an Illinois-based public or not-for-profit college or university.
  • Purpose: Loans are available to students and their families, after grants, scholarships, and traditional financial aid is exhausted.
  • Rates: Three different loan options are available with competitive interest rates.

Students and families can learn more about the loan options by visiting the Student Empowerment Fund website.
