Following the passage of the largest budget in Illinois history — totaling over $55 billion — State Senator Darby Hills (R-Barrington Hills) issued the following statement, calling out the lack of accountability and the burden it places on working families.
“Illinois Democrats just passed the largest state budget in history — more than $55 billion in spending, pushed through without transparency, meaningful debate, or consideration for the families who are expected to pay for it.
“Under Governor Pritzker, state spending has soared by nearly 40 percent. This budget continues that unsustainable trend, placing even more strain on working families who are already doing everything they can to make ends meet.
“I voted no because families deserve better. They deserve leaders who will protect their paychecks, invest responsibly, and stop treating them like an endless source of revenue. I’ll continue to stand up for the people I represent and fight for a future that’s more affordable, more accountable, and built with families at the center of every decision.”
