SPRINGFIELD, IL- State Senator Darby Hills (R-Barrington Hills) is speaking out after passage of the controversial “Energy Omnibus Bill,” warning that the measure will raise energy costs and eliminate key protections for Illinois families.
“Families are already feeling the pinch — groceries, gas, and childcare all cost more, and now energy bills are about to skyrocket,” said Senator Hills. “Instead of offering relief, this plan takes away the safeguards that keep rates affordable and gives unelected bureaucrats the power to raise prices whenever they want, with no limits or accountability.”
The legislation removes current caps on how much utilities can raise electric rates, shifting decision-making power to the Illinois Commerce Commission and paving the way for an estimated $8 billion utility fee increase.
“Illinoisans deserve affordable, reliable energy, not rate hikes,” said Senator Hills. “We should be finding ways to help families, not adding to their struggles.”
Senator Hills says she will continue advocating for policies that put working families first and make Illinois a more affordable place to live and raise a family.
SB 25 was passed by the General Assembly on October 30th.
