Thank you to Lourdes Duarte and WGN TV for the opportunity to talk about my legislation, the “Healing Through History Act”, and why access to adoption records matters.
Although detailed records documenting placements, milestones, and life events exist in the state’s case management system, access to certain foster care records is limited. I filed Senate Bill 2895 to help ensure they can access that history while still protecting the privacy of foster families.
This legislation was inspired in part by my constituent, Melissa Khamkhounnavong, an adoptive mother of three who has been advocating for greater access to information for families like hers.
