Lake Zurich, IL – Nearly five tons of paper were securely shredded and recycled at State Senator Darby Hills’ (R-Barrington Hills) free Recycle & Shred Event at St. Francis Catholic Church, helping hundreds of residents protect themselves from identity theft while producing remarkable environmental benefits and keeping valuable materials out of local landfills.
“Providing services like this is one of the most rewarding parts of my job because they directly benefit the people I represent,” said Hills. “Residents shouldn’t have to worry about protecting their personal information or finding a responsible way to recycle. By bringing these services into the community, we’re helping families, protecting the environment, and making it easier for everyone to recycle.”
By the end of the event, residents had recycled 9,720 pounds (4.9 tons) of paper, which is enough to save 68 trees, conserve more than 34,000 gallons of water, prevent 292 pounds of pollutants, save 1,847 gallons of oil, conserve 19,440 kilowatts of energy, and keep 15 cubic yards of waste out of local landfills. New this year, the event also accepted donated bicycles and bicycle parts, which will be refurbished and donated to individuals and families in need, extending the event’s impact beyond recycling and into the community.
The Recycle & Shred Event is one of several free constituent service events Senator Hills hosts throughout the year to provide practical resources, strengthen the community, and improve quality of life for residents across the 26th Senate District.
