Dear friend,
Session adjourned in the early hours of June 1, and Democrats pushed through the largest budget in Illinois history — $55 billion in unsustainable spending, passed without transparency or meaningful debate. I voted no because working families can’t afford to keep footing the bill. I also voted no on a proposed $1.50 statewide delivery tax to bail out Chicago’s transit system—another burden on already-stretched budgets.
As someone raised by a single mom who worked two jobs, I know every dollar counts. I’ll keep fighting for responsible spending and standing up for families who deserve better.
In other news, I’m excited to partner with the Illinois Tollway to bring FREE I-PASS sticker swap events to our community. These events will help you easily transition from outdated plastic transponders to the new sticker tags. See more information below!
Representing you,
Senator Hills

Voted NO on Highest Budget in IL History – $55 Billion
On Sunday, June 1st at 1:36 in the morning, the Spring 2025 Legislative Session adjourned, and the Illinois Democrats passed the largest state budget in history — more than $55 billion in spending, pushed through without transparency, meaningful debate, or consideration for the families who are expected to pay for it.
Under Governor Pritzker, state spending has soared by nearly 40 percent. This budget continues that unsustainable trend, placing even more strain on working families who are already doing everything they can to make ends meet. I voted no because families deserve better. They deserve leaders who will protect their paychecks, invest responsibly, and stop treating them like an endless source of revenue. I’ll continue to stand up for the people I represent and fight for a future that’s more affordable, more accountable, and built with families at the center of every decision.

Proposed $1.50 Statewide Delivery Tax to Bailout Chicago Transit
The Senate approved House Bill 3438, which includes a bailout for the Chicago transit system funded in part by a new $1.50 delivery tax on nearly all online orders.
For the people already struggling with high costs, this $1.50 delivery tax on everything you order online is another hit to the family budget you simply cannot afford. I know what that’s like, I lived it.
I was raised by a single mom who worked two jobs to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads. A tax like this would’ve made things even harder.
A tax on everyday necessities to bail out Mayor Brandon Johnson is the wrong approach. I voted no in the Senate, and because we sounded the alarm, it didn’t pass the House. But this isn’t over. I’ll keep fighting for families in our area and pushing back against it. View a video of me opposing this tax on the Senate floor here.
