Dear friend,
I’d like to share a quick update on an important state issue, along with some exciting opportunities right here in our district.
First and foremost, a new bill rushed through the legislature could lead to expensive lawsuits that hurt families and businesses, risking jobs and economic growth. I’m taking action to block it and make sure lawmakers follow the proper process to protect our communities.
On a lighter note, I’m excited to announce that my 2025 Summer Reading Challenge is now underway! All students entering 1st through 12th grade are encouraged to read 8 books by August 8th. Participants will receive an official Senate certificate and an invitation to a fun ice cream social. It’s a great way to keep young minds active over the summer. For details or to download the form, visit www.SenatorDarbyHills.com.
Also, I’ll be hosting an iCash event to help residents search for unclaimed property. You might be owed money and not even know it! It’s quick, easy, and completely free — just stop by and see if the State of Illinois owes you cash.
As always, I’m here to serve you. If you have any questions or need assistance with state services, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Representing you,
Darby Hills, IL State Senator – 26th District

Senator Hills Joins Legal Challenge to Protect Families and Uphold Constitutional Process
Senator Darby Hills is calling on Governor Pritzker to veto Senate Bill 328 — a controversial proposal rushed through the General Assembly without following the constitutional process. She has also joined a lawsuit challenging the way the bill was passed, arguing that lawmakers and the public alike were denied the transparency and accountability they deserve.
When constitutional procedures are ignored, confidence in our democracy is undermined. The process used to pass SB328 raises serious concerns about whether the rules were followed — and that’s why Senator Darby Hills has joined a legal challenge to stand up for transparency, accountability, and the families she represents.
“Following the law isn’t optional,” said Senator Hills. “The Constitution lays out a clear process for how bills should move through the legislature so the public can see what’s happening. That process wasn’t followed here — and that’s not okay.”
But it’s not just the process that’s flawed — the bill itself poses real harm. SB328 could flood Illinois courts with lawsuits that have no connection to the state, driving up costs and putting jobs at risk.
“This bill makes it easier for trial lawyers to abuse our legal system, and it makes it harder for businesses to stay and grow here,” said Hills. “That hurts working families, and it’s not the kind of policy Illinois needs.” Senator Hills is urging the Governor to veto the bill and allow the legislature to go back and do things the right way — by following the Constitution and passing legislation that truly serves Illinois families.
