It’s after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29th, and we’re still here at the Capitol for Veto Session debating a long list of new tax proposals that Democrats are trying to pass. They want to increase your taxes to fund nearly a $2 billion bailout for Mayor Johnson and the Chicago Transit System.
At a time when families are already struggling to afford groceries, gas, and childcare, these new tax ideas would make life even more expensive.
Here’s what the Democrats proposed:
Sales Tax Hike – raises costs on groceries, gas, school supplies, and childcare.
Delivery Tax – adds new costs for ordering essentials like baby formula and household items online.
“Fun Tax” – adds fees to streaming services and entertainment.
Service Taxes – increases prices for haircuts, car repairs, and home maintenance.
Real Estate Transfer Tax – makes buying or selling a home more costly.
New Vehicle Tax – raises the price of owning or replacing a car.
$1 Toll Surcharge – adds up for commuters traveling to work each day.
10% Rideshare Tax – increases transportation costs for those without easy access to public transit.
Payroll (Head) Tax – raises costs for employers, which could impact jobs and wages.
More Speed Cameras – means more fines for working parents and commuters.
Illinois families are already making tough decisions each month — these new taxes would only make it harder.
We should be finding ways to ease the financial burden on families, not add to it.
