You Asked / We Acted – Expanding Access to Early Allergy Prevention

After a constituent shared her personal experience navigating severe food allergies with her young son, I filed legislation, SB 4182, in response to help prevent similar challenges for other families across Illinois. The bill ensures infants have access to early allergen introduction supplements, including egg and peanut products, which can help reduce the risk of developing serious food allergies later in life. Beginning with insurance policies issued, renewed, or modified after January 1, 2027, it requires coverage of at least a six-month supply prescribed by a health professional, with no cost-sharing for families. The measure applies broadly to public and private health plans, aiming to make prevention more affordable and position Illinois as a leader in early childhood health.
