Senator Darby Hills Welcomes New Law Strengthening Transparency in Child Protection Investigations

SPRINGFIELD, IL — State Senator Darby Hills (R-Barrington Hills) is highlighting a new law designed to increase transparency and accountability in child abuse and neglect investigations conducted by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

Hills, a former prosecutor and mother, said ensuring children are protected requires a child welfare system that families can trust.

“As both a mother and a former prosecutor, I know protecting children requires accountability and a commitment to doing what is right,” Hills said. “Families deserve confidence that child welfare investigations are handled with transparency, integrity, and the best interests of children in mind. Strengthening trust in our systems is an important step toward better protecting Illinois’ most vulnerable children.”

House Bill 4242 was signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker.
