State Senator Darby Hills was recently featured in the Daily Herald for her participation in the Lake Zurich American Legion’s America 250 celebration, where she joined community members in honoring the service and sacrifice of local veterans and their families.
During the celebration, Hills recognized CW4 Richard Johnson for his decades of military service and his efforts in helping establish the Veterans Memorial in Lake Zurich, a lasting tribute honoring those who have served our nation.
Hills also honored the memory of Major Paul R. Syverson III, who was killed in action in Iraq on June 12, 2004, following an enemy mortar attack. She presented a certificate of recognition to his father in remembrance of Major Syverson’s bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting our freedoms.
As part of the ceremony, Hills presented a flag flown over the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield to the Commander of the Lake Zurich American Legion as a symbol of gratitude and appreciation for the organization’s continued dedication to veterans and the community.
The America 250 celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of preserving our history, honoring those who have served, and ensuring future generations understand the sacrifices made by America’s heroes.
